In their 2016 report, Navigant Research noted that the global market for electric drive buses, alone, will grow from about 119,000 buses in 2016 to 181,000 in 2026. 

These increases, whilst primarily motivated by environmental concerns, are also as a result of rapidly falling costs and charge times coupled with improved range: Electric bus maker Proterra recently logged more than 900Kms on a single charge with their Catalyst E2 series, equipped with a 440-660 kWh battery pack.
